One of the UK’s most established rail engineering firms needed a partner to mobilise and manage their frontline labour nationwide – and to do so, they turned to us. From day one, Vital stepped in to provide consistent, compliant, experienced resources so Atkins could keep rail works moving without disruption.

From Transition to Trust.
In July 2020, Atkins awarded Vital a three-year framework contract as their MSP for all blue-collar frontline labour.
This followed a long-standing PSL model. Vital took over – fast – and assumed full responsibility across 13 district units, sponsoring 2,608 workers.
With 87.15 % of those workers being primary sponsored and 83 % having more than five years’ tenure with Vital, we delivered experience and reliability at scale.
How Vital delivered? We understand rail. We know the stakes.
Our delivery model for Atkins combined structure with flexibility:
- Dedicated local Resource Managers across 13 district units to ensure on-site responsiveness and workforce continuity.
- Full MSP framework replacing the previous PSL, consolidating systems, suppliers and compliance for improved control.
- Labour sponsorship strategy to ensure workers were correctly aligned and tenured – driving stability and reducing churn.
- Shift-fill guarantee: 100 % shift coverage delivered through rapid deployment of available, vetted workforce
- Cost-efficient model leveraging invoice consolidation, pay-rate management and time-management to achieve savings and efficiency.
