Delivering critical rail civils capability for Kier

The challenge

Kier required a highly capable, safety-led civils workforce to deliver the SIN 119 HV Project in Gobowen. The programme was complex, long-term and mission critical. It demanded consistent productivity, deep rail civils expertise, and the ability to scale resource without disrupting live operations.

The margin for error was minimal. Delivery had to stay on programme while meeting strict safety, quality and operational standards.

The Morson Vital solution

Morson Vital deployed a fully integrated rail civils delivery team, embedded from project inception through to completion. Our role focused on providing experienced, site-ready capability that could operate at pace while maintaining absolute control over safety and quality.

Across 2.5 years, we supplied and managed 28 full-time contractors, structured into skilled, self-sufficient gangs and supported by experienced supervision and plant operations. Our long-standing relationship with Kier allowed us to mobilise quickly, align to site processes, and maintain continuity throughout the programme lifecycle.

Scope of works delivered

Morson Vital-supported teams were responsible for a broad range of rail civils activities, including:

• Installation of a new line of route to improve connectivity and operational efficiency

• Replacement of damaged troughs and lids to restore asset integrity

• Construction of new concrete bases supporting rail infrastructure and equipment

• Route elevation works to meet safety and compliance requirements

• Installation of new Power Signal Boxes to enhance signalling reliability

• DNO route works to support efficient power distribution

• Construction of location cabinet bases for secure electrical and communications housing

• Staging construction to enable safe, efficient site operations

• Footpath development to improve access for operatives and passengers

• Installation of chambers housing critical infrastructure components

All works were delivered safely, sequentially and in line with programme milestones.

Workforce model

The project was delivered by a structured, experienced team comprising:

• 4 x five-person skilled lineside civils gangs

• 1 x Supervisor

• 1 x Telehandler Operator

• 1 x Bankman

• 1 x Storeman

This model ensured on-site resilience, productivity and clear accountability at every stage.
