When Renewable Infrastructure Demands Specialists, Vital Delivers.

Hornsea 2 – a 1,400 MW offshore wind development around 100 km off the Yorkshire coast – needed a workforce to match its scale. They reached out to Vital. We stepped in with the specialist people who could deliver in rigorous offshore and onshore environments. We supplied full crews of supervisors, chargehands, mechanical technicians, fitters and wiremen. All competent, all trained, all ready for the next level.

Hornsea 2 will eventually generate clean power for more than 1.3 million homes annually and supports the UK’s goal of delivering 15 % of its energy from renewables.

Vital’s role spanned:

  • Supply of offshore & onshore substation personnel for both day and night shifts. 
  • Technicians competent in transformer work, high-voltage panels, SF6 systems, gas works and more.
  • Workers trained for offshore transfer, including helicopter training and GWO certification. 

When the project required specialist resource with real offshore readiness, Vital delivered a workforce built to operate under demanding conditions.

  • We tapped into our offshore resource pipeline – supervisors, chargehands, mechanical and electrical technicians – all experienced in substation, transformer and HV environments.
  • We ensured each worker held all relevant offshore and substation certifications, including GWO, helicopter transfer and specialist HV authorisations.
  • We aligned with Hornsea 2’s shift patterns (including night work), offshore team logistics and onshore/offshore hand-over demands, ensuring seamless roster integration.
  • We integrated compliance and competency checks into the supply chain — every worker authorised for HV panels, SF6 handling, gas works and fit-out.
  • We collaborated with Hornsea 2’s management and offshore operations team to anticipate peaks, plan for continuous coverage and protect critical timelines.

This wasn’t simply placing technicians. It was supplying a deployment-ready offshore workforce tailored to renewable energy infrastructure at scale.
