We’ve built a sustainable and scalable health, safety, and environmental management system, certified to ISO 45001, with a continual focus on collaboration, innovation, and improvement.
Our on-site Safety Vehicles travel the length and breadth of the UK, bringing safety briefings, toolbox talks, and behaviour-based engagement directly to the front line. By working hand-in-hand with clients, we ensure shared responsibility, open dialogue, and consistent safety standards across every site and contract.

These aren’t just branded vans. They’re mobile safety hubs, purpose-built spaces that make safety personal, practical, and powerful. Every visit is an opportunity to connect, upskill, and strengthen the safety culture that keeps our people and partners protected.

Fatigue Management
Working in safety-critical industries demands more than skill; it demands alertness, focus, and care.
That’s why we’ve embedded fatigue management into everything we do, from workforce scheduling and rostering to digital health monitoring and on-site supervision.

24/7 On-Call Operations Centre
Our 24/7 On-Call Operations Centre keeps every client, contractor, and worksite connected around the clock.
It’s not just a call centre; it’s the command hub of our operation, delivering fast, human support when it matters most.

Our Close Call Reporting system captures incidents, near misses, and potential hazards in real time helping us learn, act, and prevent accidents before they happen.

Safety extends beyond PPE. It’s also about mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
At Vital, we recognise that a healthy workforce is a safer, more resilient workforce. That’s why our Health and Wellbeing Strategy is designed to help people stay balanced, informed and supported both at work and beyond.
Our initiatives include:
- On-site health MOTs offering private, data-driven wellness checks.
- Fitness and lifestyle programmes from yoga to strength training designed to build resilience.
- Educational sessions that empower teams to make better health and lifestyle choices.
These aren’t add-ons; they’re essential elements of how we care for our people and maintain operational excellence.
Mental health matters as much as physical safety.
Across Vital, our trained Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs) are on hand to identify early signs of mental strain, offer guidance, and connect colleagues to the right support.
What began as a 20-strong initiative now includes 40 MHFAs, with a target of 80 trained individuals in the coming years.
In addition:
- All line managers complete ‘Managing Mental Health in the Workplace’ training.
- We equip leaders with step-by-step guidance for supporting team members, including return-to-work conversations and early interventions.
- Mental health awareness is embedded into our induction, leadership, and operational training frameworks.
Because safety starts with understanding and that includes the unseen.
We believe proactive health care should come to the worker, not the other way around.
Our mobile health MOT programme delivers confidential health checks directly to site giving workers real-time insights into their health and helping spot risks early.
Each MOT includes:
- Blood pressure
- Body fat and BMI
- Bone mass and metabolic rate
- Private consultation and results review
These quick, five-minute assessments create space for honest health conversations — and measurable improvements.
For many of our rail operatives and apprentices, physical fitness is critical to safety and performance.
Our Fitness Matters initiative helps workers build the strength, agility, and endurance required for demanding manual roles while also promoting the mental health benefits of exercise.
Example: our Manchester Level 2 Engineering Apprentices complete a six-week CrossFit programme focused on physical readiness, teamwork, and safety awareness.
It’s training that strengthens both body and mindset preparing our people for safe, sustainable careers.
